This 40-Hour Site Safety Manager course trains participants on how to be an effective site safety manager while focusing on building construction that may be classified by the NYC Department of Buildings. The training course emphasizes protecting, not only the safety of the general public but also of those individuals working on the job site. 

Completion of this site safety manager training is a prerequisite when applying for a site safety coordinator or construction superintendent license. The course incorporates a comprehensive review of chapter 33 and the rules of the City of New York that relate to the protection of the public. This training course prepares prospective candidates with work practices that align with NYC safety rules and regulations and trains them for the Site Safety Manager or Site Safety Coordinator exam.

NYC SITE SAFETY REQUIREMENT

In order to become a Site Safety Manager and/or Coordinator, applicants must acquire and submit a certificate of completion for the 40-hour safety manager training course, as stated in Title 28 General Administrative provisions of the NYC Construction Codes. In addition, to become a Construction Superintendent, applicants must also submit a certification of completion for the 40-hour Site Safety Manager Course. FaÇade projects requiring site-safety plans or buildings 15 stories or higher may use a site safety manager who has completed construction safety manager training to oversee site safety on the project, according to New York City's requirement that began on July 1, 2016.

To become a safety manager, it is required that the person designated on the project must have:

1. 40-hour site safety manager training (and 7-hour refresher every 3 years thereafter); and
2. 32-hour supported scaffold installer training (and 8-hour refresher every 4 years thereafter); and
3. 32-hour suspended scaffold supervisor training (and complete the 8-hour refresher every 4 years thereafter); and
4. OSHA 30 or greater construction training. Minimum 10-hour OSHA every 5 years.

1. 100% attendance for the 40-Hour Site Safety Manager Training Course
2. Completion of Continuing Education and Training Registration Form
3. Actively participating in all class exercises (determined by course instructor)
4. Completion of required pre and post-quiz assessment
5. Achievement of a minimum passing score on the required end-of-course examination, as applicable
6. Completion and submittal of end-of-course evaluation form (name must be provided on form to receive credit)

6. Recognize possible fire hazards and prevention techniques that comply with the New York City Fire Code
